The Syndicate is an ensemble theater company that produces new plays by women, queer, and trans artists. As an international network, The Syndicate seeks to expand professional opportunities in the field for both our members and fellow artists. Our work advocates for diversity, both in how we tell stories and whose stories we tell.
We founded The Syndicate in May 2014. Since then, here's what we've been up to:
2014: Well Job Gertrude workshop at the 2014 HOT! Fest at Dixon Place (NYC) in July 2014; and Civility! presented through SITI Lab in October 2014 (NYC).
2015: Civility!, presented through the Resident Artist program at The Brick (NYC) in January 2015; Well Job Gertrude, presented as part of New Works in Three with Phoenix Theatre Ensemble at the Wild Project (NYC); Long Distance: Los Angeles, presented at Human Resources LA in October 2015; and Long Distance: Myrtle Beach, performed at Coastal Carolina University in November 2015.
2016: Long Distance: The Hague (Fingerspitzengefuhl), performed at Theaterstudio Drang in January 2016; Long Distance: New York, performed at Spaceworks: Williamsburg (NYC) in March 2016; Graceful Exit reading, by Alanna Coby, part of the 2016 Mabou Mines Resident Artist Program and performed at the Clemente (NYC) in June 2016; Civility! tour to the Hamlin Park Fieldhouse (Chicago, IL) in August 2016; and Bluets work-in-progress at Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA) in December 2016.
2017: Tiny Errors at the End of the Millennium work-in-progress at SITI's Zeisler Studio in February 2017; Graceful Exit workshop, performed at the Drama League as part of their 2017 Resident Artist Program in March 2017; and Hot Belly, performed at The Tank (NYC) in April 2017.
2018: Another Jungle, a co-production with Cloudgate Theater at Pride Arts Center (Chicago); Bluets, performed at IRT (NYC) in August 2018; First Read, featuring The Beasts of Warren by Azure D. Osborne-Lee, Hunting by Nelle Tankus, and the desert play (or Nothing Feels Like) by Hal Cosentino, produced at IRT in September 2018; and Tiny Errors at the End of the Millennium, performed at IRT in September 2018.
2019: First Read, featuring Quemado by Lucas Garcia, Ashana (A Native Play) by June Thiele, Prefer Not to Answer, or Other by Gavin D. Pak, and Dig by Theo Germaine, produced by Ellenor Riley-Condit with Hal Cosentino and Denise Yvette Serna of Pop Magic Productions at The Martin in June 2019.
